Tyresö House
TYRESÖ, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
Complete remodelling of a standard yellow brick detached house outside Stockholm to make a contemporary family home. The existing building was single storey with a stair leading down to a dark basement cellar and garage.
Our solution was to open up the centre of the house making a new staircase that both accentuates and serves the split levels. The stair also acts as a divider between social spaces on one side and private spaces to the other. Existing basement and ground floor window openings were enlarged to bring natural light deeper into the house. The facade is rendered white and a new terrace overlooking the garden is accessed via large sliding doors.
